I’m Afraid of a Lot of Things
If I had to list the things that I am afraid of, the first thing that comes to mind is horror movies. I refuse to watch them period. I think the last horror movie I ever saw was at a friend’s sleepover party in grade school. I couldn’t sleep that night or for the next couple of days.
I am also afraid of things that many people are afraid of: spiders, snakes, heights, getting mugged, losing a loved one, etc.
As an extreme introvert, I am afraid of networking, meeting new people, striking up conversations, dinner parties, public speaking and social situations that consist of more than four people. I am so afraid that sometimes I get anxiety about it and I overanalyze every last bit of the situation.
Yet, I am not afraid of taking risks. I was willing to face the fears of my introvert self. By facing these fears, I was able to take the necessary steps needed in order to leave a job I was extremely unhappy with. The biggest risk I’ve took to date was accepting a new job in a completely different industry.
After I had given my two weeks’ notice, I felt as if a huge overbearing weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I was excited because the change I had been so desperately craving had finally arrived.
At that point, I wasn’t afraid.
