In my coupon clipping post, I mention how there are very few coupons to clip in Canada. I still love coupons though. When they are available and applicable to me, I try to use them. Another way I save money is on groceries through price matching. I flip through the weekly flyers and compare prices on many items. It can be a bit time-consuming but because the price difference can be quite significant, I find that it’s worth it.
Grocery stores are always busy on the weekend and I’m not the greatest at picking out which line is moving the fastest. I’m not the most patient person either. Ironically enough, I’m also one to slow the line down because of my price matching. I try my best to organize everything prior to paying. I’ll separate the items that need to be price matched from the ones that don’t. It still is a bit of a hassle to hang on to a bunch of flyers and flip through them, trying to find the item you want to price match.
Enter the Flipp App.
While it doesn’t help you find actual coupons, it is a handy device to have on your phone or tablet that can help you save money while you shop. You enter your postal code and it will bring up flyers from stores that are in your area. You can swipe through the flyers and when you find something you want to buy, you just tap on it. The app will circle it and “clip it” for you, meaning it will be added to your list.
Say you want to find out where tomatoes are the cheapest. Just perform a search for tomatoes and the app will list all the stores that have tomatoes on sale. The app takes the work out of price matching for you. A more general search can be performed and the app will find items that are 5%, 10%, 15%, etc their regular price.
This YouTube video goes into more detail on how to use the app.
What I love about this app is that it saves me time and I don’t have to carry several flyers around with me! All I need is my tablet. I swipe and show the cashier the items and I’m good to go. If I had to choose one app to add to my phone (Technically, I think my blackberry is too old to add this app, but if I could I would!), this would be it. I also love the fact that it’s free.
Technology couldn’t get better. Saving time and money is the optimal thing that such apps achieves. People should embrace such methods since its available and free.
Do you have to print the clippings, or just show them to the clerk on your phone?
Hi David, you can just show the clippings on your phone. Much easier than having to carry all those flyers around and flip through them. 🙂
Perfect app around the holidays. Its a great, free and easy way to see deals going on at stores nearby.Nice article
So easy and convenient to use. I love looking up more than one store at a time.
