When I first started blogging, I tried to do everything on my own and found myself all over the place. Being the extreme introvert and socially awkward person I am, I was even afraid to ask for online help. It wasn’t until I started asking for help and advice from people who had been in the game longer, that I began to learn more and applied these concepts to my blog.
I thought I had focus because I made the conscious decision to treat my blog like a business. While I had the right mindset, I didn’t have the right plan. Well, let’s be honest, I didn’t have a plan AT ALL. Turns out that I was yet again trying to do all the things at the same time, spreading myself too thin and not making much progress.
I had been going back and forth on the idea of having a mentor until one day I decided to make the investment. It had gotten to the point where I was sick of struggling so much on my own. I acknowledged the fact that I needed help. Everyone does at some point in their lives and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with asking for it.
It’s very admirable and there’s that great satisfaction of having been able to do things on our own, but it’s very difficult, tiresome and stressful to do EVERYTHING BY YOURSELF. ALL THE TIME.
Why should you have to go through all that sh*t alone? Nobody should have to.
Having someone to help me focus and guide me has seriously been eye-opening and life-changing. I personally believe that I have made a great deal of progress in the past 6 months we have been working together vs the past 4.5 years. For the record, I have had some brief mini-mentorships with a few people which were quite helpful, but they didn’t compare to the amount of help and support I received from my mentor.
I love Facebook Groups because they are the best forums when it comes to getting advice and questions answered. If there was a question I could answer or an opinion I could provide, I would do just that.If it was me who needed some advice, I would immediately head for the Facebook Groups. Would you believe I went for almost 4.5 years without Facebook Groups? Imagine how things would have been if I joined Facebook Groups right from the start.
Live and learn.
But Facebook Groups can only help so much and sometimes it’s not enough. It’s necessary to have multiple support systems – online and offline. Depending on how serious you want to become with your blog and your business, the dedicated time spent with a blog or business coach can be exactly what you need. They provide specific advice and suggestions that’s tailored to your personal goals. Not only that, they follow up with how you’re doing with your goals.
They keep you accountable.
