MakintheBacon Got Nominated For a Liebster (Again).

After another very long week at work, what better way to compensate for it than to have a long weekend??!?!

Yet, here I am blogging.

I’ve been nominated by Liberty over at Liberty Loves Company for a Liebster Award. Thank you so much! I should note that this isn’t the first time I’ve been nominated for a Liebster Award. Tonya, from Budget and the Beach nominated me for one awhile back, but for some reason (I’m sure it was due to pure laziness), I didn’t bother to do acknowledge it as well I should have. Sorry Tonya and a BIG thank you!!

liebster award

I’m not that new of a blog, but if you’re a new visitor, welcome!

If this isn’t part of the rules, or I broke the rules of the Liebster nomination, so be it. If I get “disqualified”, because I’ve been nominated twice, then so be it again. I think there are several sets of rules though and they seem to change every so often.

But a lot of rules (not laws though), are meant to be broken. Despite the fact that I was a goody-two shoes and always did what I was supposed to do for the most part, I was also non-conventional.

Onward to the Liebster Questions!

1. What advice would you give to someone thinking of starting a blog?

Just like anything you want to be successful in/good at/make money with-it’s not easy and it takes a LOT OF WORK. Due to long hours at my full time job and a physically intense part-time job, I’m not nearly putting in as many hours as I would like to. But I do what I can, as much as I can, when I can.

Don’t do it because you want to make money. I started one because I thought it was an easy way to make money. Boy, was I wrong on that one big time. However, I realized that I enjoyed it -even some of the technical stuff and I’m not even technically inclined (maybe to non-bloggers I would be though). It’s been a slow climb and it is still kind of slow. I didn’t start making money off of my blog until 1.5 years.

2. What is your nerdiest money habit?

The concept of nerd is open to interpretation in my opinion. I guess my typical nerdiest money habit would be using an excel spreadsheet to budget and track how much I’m saving, spending- in numbers and percentages. I even have a chart where I track my net worth, which I can happily report is rising (just like my blog, it is a slow climb).

3. What did your parents teach you about money? (good or bad)

I hate to admit this, but although my parents weren’t rich, just middle class, my sister and I were spoiled princesses. They paid for everything we needed and bought us almost anything we wanted. They were against us working during the school year, because they wanted us to focus more on our studies, believing that education would get us a decent job. (Perhaps back in the ’70s and 80s, but Generation XY/Millenials know better).

Neither of my parents really taught us anything about money. However, my mom did encourage me to learn about investing and to actually invest my money in stocks and mutual funds. I ignored her advice the first time she said it, but then finally realized the importance of investing and set up a brokerage account with my local bank.

4. What are 3 things that not many people know about you?

Well people in real  life don’t know about this blog, but 3 things that my readers and fellow pf bloggers may not know about me are:

  • I HATE TOMATOES. I can’t tell you how much I hate them and how they make things soggy. But I do like ketchup and sundried tomatoes. My partner’s grandparents gave us a tomato plant a couple years back. Needless to say, it died.

  • I took dance lessons for 5 years (ballet for one, jazz for five) when I was a kid, yet I hate dancing now. I’m that person who just sits at the table during weddings and you have to drag out to the dance floor.

  • I like my coffee black. No cream, no sugar.

5. What was the last thing you ate?

Leftovers from last night dinner: stir fry.

My five nominations are: (they may not be new to you or maybe they are, but they’re new to me!):

No More Waffles

Urban Departures

Brokepedia!

Money Propeller

Work to Not Work

I nominated them because I think they’re Grrreat (remember Tony the Tiger? Does anyone still eat Frosted Flakes?).

My five questions for the nominees:

1. In your opinion, what is the best part about blogging?

2. Name a weird/unusual money saving habit you have

3. What country/city is next on your “must visit” list?

4. If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?

5. What’s your least favourite food?

Haha, you seem to truly hate tomaties with the passion of a thousand suns! I’m the other way around: love tomatoes, but don’t like sun-dried ones.

Thanks for the nomination! I really appreciate it!
I remember Tony the Tiger, although I don’t recall his Dutch name anymore… I often eat the Aldi version of Frosties for breakfast.

I’ll respond to your questions here, because I did a post on the Liebster Award recently already!

    1. The best part about blogging to me is the interaction with other like-minded people. It takes a lot more effort than I imagined, but that’s what makes blogging totally worth it. Everytime I receive a notification on my phone that someone replied to one of my posts I get excited as if it’s Christmas morning and there’s a bunch of presents waiting for me under the tree.

    2. Difficult one on the weirdest money saving habit. To a lot of people it’s really weird that I don’t have a car (mostly to save money), but I don’t really consider that weird or unusual. Ha, probably the fact that I have two sets of bed sheets for a single bed on my double bed, so that I can switch sides after a while. It’s better for the matrass and I can reduce the usage of my washing machine, which saves water and electricity. :)

    3. Must visit country is probably Copenhagen! Denmark is one of the few countries in Europe I haven’t visited yet (quite possibly the only one), so I’d love to go there some day soon.

    4. Super power would probably be telekinesis or mind control. Slight favour for mind control, because having an army of mind-controlled minions sounds like a lot of fun!

    5. Least favourite food definitely are mussels – the irony! I’m the only Belgian I know who doesn’t like it, but there you have it.

    Thanks again for nominating me!

    Have a great weekend,
    NMW
